Reverend William Underwood

Reverend William L. Underwood, age 95, of Danville, VA, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Reverend Underwood was born on July 28, 1928, in Caswell County, NC, a son of the late, Genie Roy Underwood and Ruth Aldridge Underwood. He lived most of his life in Danville where he pastored at several churches. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College, Carson Newman College, University of Virginia and Southeastern Theological Seminary and was also a professor at Hargrave Military Academy. Reverend Underwood was married to Leona McGuire Underwood who preceded him in death.

Reverend Underwood is survived by his brother, Harry Underwood; sister, Deborah Cox; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, James Underwood and sister, Betty Lou Garrison.  

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Alamance Memorial Park 4039 S Church St. Burlington, NC 27215, with Reverend Randall Helms, Reverend Kenneth Hammock, Reverend Joey Bray and Reverend Stephen Willis officiating.
