Shelby Rust

Shelby McAlister Rust, age 81 of Chatham, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Chatham Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Rust was born on September 24, 1940, in South Carolina. She was last employed with the City of Suffolk Tax Department as the deputy secretary until her retirement. After her retirement, she and her husband Jasper “Jackie” Brack Rust moved to Chatham where she lived until her passing. Mrs. Rust was a member of Schoolfield Church of the Brethren.

Mrs. Rust is survived by her husband Jasper “Jackie” Brack Rust of Chatham; cousins, Curtis Glasgow (Donna) of South Hill, Jimmy Glasgow (Sue) of Axton and Patsy Ann Gulihuer of San Diego, CA; sisters-in-law, Nadara Rust Kingery, and Irene Horsley (Ben) of Dry Fork; brothers-in-law, Jerry Rust (Ginny) of Maryland and David Rust (Debbie) of Danville; special longtime friend, Nancy Walliser of Suffolk, VA and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rust was predeceased by her infant girl, Linda Rust and son, Jasper “Jay” Rust, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Swicegood with Dr. Charles Scearce officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
