Mrs. Shirley Hayes, age 66, of Cascade, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loved ones on Monday April 25, 2022, at her residence after declining health.
Mrs. Hayes was born on September 02, 1955, in Washington County, to the late Coy Malcolm Gill and Charlotte Hope Wise Gill. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William Hayes and brother Joe Gill.
Shirley’s passion for providing care to others led her to be the owner and operator of STM Sitting Services.
Shirley was saved and of the Baptist faith, where she was a member of Gatewood Baptist Church for over 20 years until her decline in health. She was a faithful follower online to Bethany Baptist Church located in Cascade, Virginia and Community Baptist Church located in Danville, VA.
Shirley enjoyed writing songs and had the gift of singing, which she used many years in the church. Shirley loved fishing and that took pride in catching more fish than anyone.
Shirley is survived by her children, Chasity L. Manley Gibson, and Tina R. Testerman Tatum, husband Kevin; grandchildren, Jacob Tatum wife Makaylyn, Emerald “Eme” Gibson; sister, Brenda Presley; brother, Lawrence Denver (L.D.) Gill wife Brenda, sister-in-law, Kathy Gill, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley loved her family and also loved to welcome new family members that may not have been blood related. She was known as Moma, Moma Shirley, Granny, Gramcracker, Ran-Gran, Nana Shirley, Cousin, Sister, and Aunt. She loved to open her porch and home to anyone and wanted everyone to become a part of her family. Namely, she was Nana Shirley to Tabatha Powell and Colt Swaringen, Moma Shirley to Patricia Poindexter, Kristie Swaringen and Shawn Hyler, and she was Granny to Kylee Chambers.
Shirley’s celebration of life will be conducted Friday April 29, 2022, at Swicegood Funeral Services 564 W Main Street Danville, VA 24541 with Preacher David Hatcher officiating. The visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., an hour prior to Shirley’s celebration of life at 2:00 pm.
Family and friends will be received at the home of Kevin & Tina Tatum.
