Stephen Carter, Sr.

Stephen Carter, Sr. age 67, of 3181 Sugartree Church Rd. Danville, VA, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Carter was born on January 31, 1954, in Danville, VA, a son of the late Oren Carter, Sr. and Julia Thornton Carter. He lived most of his life in Danville where he was employed with Dan River Mills until his retirement. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Mr. Carter is survived by his children, Tanya Counts (Steve) and Stephen Carter, Jr. (Jessica); grandchildren, R.J. Mitchell, Chloe Mitchell, Sophia Counts, Stephanie Carter, Jackson Carter, Cole Carter, and Camryn Carter; step-grandchildren, Amber Jones, Mason Jones, Jeramy Mejia, and Emanuel Mejia; brothers, Oren Carter, Jr. (Joan) and Randy Carter (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Yavonne Proctor Carter and brothers, Garry T. Carter and Ronnie Carter.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend J.B. Baldridge officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Carter Family Cemetery.
