Wilbert James Smith, Sr.

Mr. Wilbert James Smith, Sr., age 88, of Danville departed this life for his heavenly home, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at SOVAH Danville.

Mr. Smith was born in Chase City, VA on May 15, 1933, the son of the late Jimmy Thomas Smith and Evelyn Street Smith.  He was of the Christian faith, and he enjoyed fishing.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Susie Long Smith, his son, Wilbert James Smith, Jr., and his brother, Raymond Eugene Smith.  Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Crystal Gale Smith, and Kimberly Dawn Smith, and three grandchildren, Morgan Freund, Heaven Gamble and Destiny Gamble, a nephew, Jimmy Smith, a great-nephew, Allen Smith (Heather), and a great-great-nephew, Parker Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Scearce officiating.  The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at Barker Chapel.
