Sleeping peacefully Clifton left this life for a better place and he awoke in the presence of his Lord and Savior. Mr. Clifton “Bunk” Howard Emerson, age 86, of 3505 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA, transposed Monday, January 16, 2017 at Stratford House Rehabilitation in Danville, VA.

He was born on October 20, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, VA, to the late Calvin Emerson and Patty Shelton Emerson.

Mr. Emerson retired from Mrs. Giles Salad Company as top salesman for 31 years and was a member of Community Baptist Church. Most of his life was lived in Chatham, attending Chatham School. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army and did a lot of voluntary work for different churches. Mr. Emerson was a Godly man. He was faithful to the Lord's work. He filled in for pastors when needed. He and his wife did a lot of work for different churches and volunteer work at several nursing homes and prisons.

He is survived by his loving wife Ernestine “Tina” Hill Hyler Emerson of the home; son, Jerry Emerson (Kim) of Hartford, Indiana; daughter, Teresa and husband Robert Gammon of Danville; He also left behind a brother, Melvin Emerson of Chatham, VA; He also left five grandchildren, Christopher Turner, Calvin Emerson, Michelle Musick, Casey Emerson and Jeremy Emerson; Also, six Great-grandchildren; three Great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Mr. Emerson was predeceased by his beloved first wife Frances Parsons Emerson; a brother, Curtis Emerson; and one grandson, Thomas Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Swicegood Funeral Home at 3pm with Rev. Jerry Flannigan, Rev. Ray Mintz, and Rev. Avery Marshall officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 one hour prior to service at Swicegood Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. At other times the family will be at the residence, 3505 Mt. Cross Road, Danville, VA 24540 or 534 Ricketts Street, Danville, VA 24540.
