Herbert Lester McDowell Jr, "Jerry", 74 of Providence, NC passed away on May 24th, 2015 after a decline in health over the past year. Mr. McDowell was born on November 15th, 1940. He was the son of the late Herbert Lester McDowell Sr. and Louise Ware McDowell. He lived all his life in Providence, N.C., where he farmed and also retired from Corning Glass Works in Danville, VA. He loved bass fishing and spending time at the Outer Banks of N.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Mark McDowell.

Mr. McDowell is survived by his wife Janet McDowell of the home; and three sons, Herbert McDowell III of Pelham NC, John McDowell(Kimberly) of Rowland NC, Scott McDowell(Christina) of Pelham NC; five grandchildren, Elliott McDowell, Houston McDowell, Scotlyn McDowell, William McDowell and Peyton Barber. The family will receive friends at 2579 Seamster Road in Providence, N.C. on Wednesday, May 27th from 5p.m. until 8p.m. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alamance-Caswell Hospice: 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
