Margaret Ann Shelton Durham, age 87, of 789 New Walters Mill Rd., Providence, NC, passed away on March 10, 2017 at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past several years.

She was born on February 01, 1930, in Caswell County, NC, to the late James Spencer Shelton and Bessie Poteat Shelton.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Durham worked as an inspector in Dan River Mills. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and the Dan River Retirees Club. Mrs. Durham spent most of her life in the Providence, NC area. She loved to sing and play the piano. The love of her life was her only grandson, Dakota.

She is survived by her husband, Lawery M. Durham, of the residence; daughter, Jeanette Durham McKercher and husband Pete, of Providence, NC; grandson, Dakota McKercher; brother, William Thomas Shelton, of San Antonio, TX; sister, Sarah Crumpton, of Yanceyville, NC; care givers, Crystal Locklear, Patricia Wagner, and Thelma Ingram; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Durham was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Shelton; and sisters, Ruby Chandler and Betsy Cook

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Rev. Sang Park officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Providence, NC.
