Melvin Wade Dodd, age 84, of 166 Lynndale Drive, Danville, Va,, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Danville, Va.

He was born on June 11, 1932, in Blairs, Va., to the late Claude Cleveland Dodd Sr. and Kate Evans Dodd.

Mr. Dodd worked for Corning Glass for 27 years before retiring, then worked at Ringgold Flea Market for 25 years with his wife. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Dodd was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, the VFW Post 647, and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by a sister, Agnes Vaughan of Danville, Va.; three Grandchildren, Joshua M. Tate and wife, Sarah, Austin W. Dodd, Jonathan Dodd and wife, Lauren; and one great-grandson, Jackson M. Dodd.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dodd was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Gracie Peavy Dodd; sons, Allen L. Dodd, Gary Wade Dodd and Glen Fulton Dodd; brothers, Hugh Dodd, Dewey Dodd, Bobby Dodd, C.C. Dodd Jr., Albert Dodd; sisters, Margaret M. Nichols, Doris D. Barker; and five half-brothers.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 6 till 7:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, August 29, 2016, at 5 p.m. at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va. with Pastors, Lawrence Morris and Allen Morris officiating. Family will receive friends and family at 166 Lynndale Drive, Danville, Va.
