William Wallace “Bill” Wilkerson Sr.

Bill Wilkerson, 86, of 712 Holland Rd. went to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2015. He passed at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born March 6, 1929 to the late Walter James and Alice Newton Wilkerson. His birth record wasn’t recorded until March 27, 1930.

Bill lived most of his life in Danville, VA where he was born. Bill was a well driller by trade. After his retirement, he and his wife became known for having the best tomatoes on Holland Rd. Bill enjoyed going to church. He loved his Lord and his family. He attended Sheldon Baptist Church.

On March 31, 1954, he married Annie Ayers. They were married for 61 years. Bill leaves behind his wife of the residence. Three daughters: Laura W. Church of Danville, Barbara Knick and husband Lee of Goose Creek, SC, and Alice Wilkerson Polland, of Ringgold, VA. Bill was survived by one son, William Wallace “Billy” Wilkerson Jr. He also left behind nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Christine Hammock and Sarah Dix; two brothers, Cecil Wilkerson and Sonny Moore.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandson T. J. Church; his step-mother, Mary Moore Wilkerson, and five brothers: David Wilkerson, Thomas Wilkerson, Nathan Wilkerson, Willie Wilkerson, and Harry Wilkerson.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. In accordance with Bill’s wishes there will not be a graveside service. He is being laid to rest at Danville Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are welcome to the residence at 712 Holland Rd.
