Danny Wayne Cumbo Sr.
On Thursday March 19, 2015, Danny Wayne Cumbo Sr. departed this life in the loving embrace of his wife and children. Courageous and strong throughout, he passed away peacefully at his home in Danville following a nearly three-year battle with cancer.
A natural curiosity led to a variety of vocations. From Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. to several small business ventures and a later career with the Daly Seven he satisfied an inquisitive nature and provided for his family.
Danny is survived by his wife of 29 years Sue Wickham Cumbo and two daughters, Cary Lee Cumbo and Sara Katherine Cumbo of the residence. As well he is survived by a son Danny Wayne Cumbo II, wife Stacy Ellison Cumbo, and two grandchildren, Anna Maria Cumbo and Jackson Carl Cumbo of Staunton, VA. In addition, he is survived by two step-daughters, Cynthia Simpson Landrum of Ringgold, VA and Jacqueline Simpson Vernon of Keeling, VA.
He is survived by a brother, David Paige Cumbo of Danville, and sister, Diane Clifton Cumbo of Altavista, VA. He was predeceased by his father, Carl Leonard Cumbo, mother Mildred Echols Cumbo, sister Melinda Cumbo Mims, and brother Jeffery Carl Cumbo, all formerly of Danville.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 Sunday, March 22 at Swicegood Funeral Home. A celebration of Danny’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23 at White Oak Worship Center in Blairs, VA with the Reverend Roger Ewing officiating. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 1097.
In lieu of flowers, the Cumbo family requests donations in Danny’s honor to the Danville Lifesaving Squad.
From his wife and daughters who served as his primary caregivers during his illness: we are grateful for our “little infinity.”
Swicegood Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Cumbo family.
