Dexter William Hancock, Jr. moved away from this earth into the arms of his loving father. He was born on April 20, 1938, to Dexter Hancock, Sr. and Thelma Scott Hancock Booth, both deceased. Dexter had been in declining health since 2013 but had gotten worse the last 12 months. He was of the Baptist Faith. Dexter worked for Dan River Mills until his retirement.

He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife, Edith Hutchinson Hancock; three sons, Dexter Hancock III (Tammy), Steven Hancock (Connie), of Pelham, NC, and Timothy Hancock (Sheila) of Providence, NC. He leaves three grandchildren, Dexter IV, of Pelham, NC, Jeremy Hancock (Breanna) and Krystal Hancock of Danville, VA; two step-grandchildren, Amber Kennon (Matt) of Ruffin, NC and Jason McKinney (Heather) of Pelham, NC; four great-grandchildren, Jorja Hancock, Caleb Hancock, Turner Hancock, and Gavin Hancock; four step-great-grandchildren, Avery Kennon, Seth Kennon, Addison McKinney and Jayce McKinney; sisters, Dorothy Mitchell (Bobby) of Danville, VA, Nancy Goodman (Raymond) and Linda Hancock of Pelham, NC; also, one brother, Troy Hancock of Pelham, NC.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Harold Hancock and Roy Hancock; sisters, Carol Mims and Frances Walker.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 25, 2017 at Swicegood Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Danny Campbell officiating and the family will be receiving an hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home. The family will be at 1022 Arch Cook Rd., Pelham, NC. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
