James Edward Presley Sr. age 74, of 4493 Snakepath Road, Blairs, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at SOVAH-Danville, after a decline in health for the past two years.

Mr. Presley was born on September 27, 1943 in Amonate, Virginia, a son of the late Clarence Ervin Presley and Vera Estelle Mangus Presley Sowers. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 24 years and before that he was employed with Dan River Mills. He was married to Brenda Sue Gill Presley who survives of the residence. Mr. Presley was an avid bow hunter and served in the US Army. He attended Gatewood Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, James Edward “Jimy” Presley, Jr. (Sue), Jerry Wayne “Elvis” Presley, (Angel), and Jonathan “Johnny” Presley (Sherry Smith); siblings, Iva Loraine Simpkins, Wanda Sue Scearce, Earl Wayne Presley, Debra P. Matthews, and Karen Barber; aunt, Pauline Phelps; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Donnie DeVall.  

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-father, Robert Sowers; and a granddaughter, Heather Elaine Presley.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with The Reverend David Hatcher and the Reverend John Gentry officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the US Army and American Legion Post 1097. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence.
