Wilford Andrew “Winky” Matherly, 85, of Danville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 6, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Nannie M. Holley.  He was born on February 18, 1932 in Penhook, Virginia, but lived most of his life in Danville.

He served as a Sergeant in the US Army as a medic in the Korean War, retired from ABS after 31 years, and was a faithful member of the Tabernacle for over 40 years.

Wilford is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie L. Matherly; five children, Deborah M. Ferris and husband Malcolm, Wendy M. Page and husband Ed, Wilford A. “Andy” Matherly, Jr., Nancy M. Moore and husband Adrian, and Susan M. Norman and husband Tony.  Wilford is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond G. Matherly and wife Joyce of Fredericksburg, Virginia.  He was predeceased by one great grandchild, Blake Ryder Laughorn, and one sister, Faye Hedrick.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Barker Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Campbell, Pastor Joey Bray, and Pastor Adrian Moore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 1457 Myrtle Ave., Danville, VA.
