Mildred E. Cumbo

October 7, 1927 ~ February 7, 2015 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Heaven gained an angel when Mildred E. Cumbo died in her
home February 7, 2015, with her daughter Diane Cumbo Clifton
and granddaughter, Sara Katherine Cumbo, at her side.
Mildred was born on October 7, 1927 in Blairs, VA to the
late Elsie Moon Echols and W.T. "Willie" Echols. She is
survived by her sister, Katherine "Kitty" Shibley of
Roanoke, VA, son David Cumbo, Sr. and daughter-in-law Marie,
Danny "Boonie" Cumbo, Sr. and daughter-in-law Sue, all of
Danville, VA, daughter Diane Clifton of Altavista, VA, as
well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She
will join her late husband Carl L. Cumbo, daughter Melinda
Mims Cumbo, son Jeffrey C. Cumbo, Sr., brother Edwin Echols,
and sisters Ruth Cottrell, Jean Hitchman, and Shirley
Saulters in heaven.

Mildred was a warm, selfless and dedicated mother and
grandmother, who lovingly raised her children and many of
her grandchildren. She was strong, generous, and hard
working, welcoming anyone into her home and treating them
like family. She was also a talented seamstress and cook,
known for her pinto beans and hot dogs with her famous
recipe of "Millie's Chili", which many enjoyed at Cumbo's
Quick Market on Holland Rd. She worked in the weave room at
Dan River Mills for over 20 years, and was a caregiver to
the elderly for many years afterwards.
 
The family will receive friends at White Oak Worship Center
in Blairs, VA, on Tuesday, February 10, from 11am until
12:30pm. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00pm at White
Oak, following visitation, with Pastor Roger Ewing
officiating. Her body will be entombed at Danville Memorial
Gardens. The family is at her home on Luna Lake Rd. In lieu
