Mrs. Myrtle Murphy Thompson, 92, of 111 Whittle Street, Chatham, died Monday, August 12, 2013 at Chatham Health & Rehab Center.  

Born in Pittsylvania County on May 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John William Murphy and Hettie Doss Murphy.  She was married to Geames Garnett Thompson who predeceased her.  She retired from Dan River, Inc. in 1993 where she had worked as a battery hand in #1 weave room.  She was a member of Springfield Primitive Baptist Church in Gretna.  

She is survived by one brother, Fred W. Murphy, of Danville; one sister, Frances Murphy Giles, of Chatham; step-children, Linda Reid of Burlington, NC, Ann Knight of Danville, and, Neal Thompson, also of Danville.  

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Murphy and Percy Murphy, and three sisters, Bertie Craddock, Connie Jefferson and Merkley Giles.

Graveside services for Mrs. Thompson will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens with Elder Marvin Brumfield officiating.  Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
